Back on the turbo – I managed a brief ride last week, but it hurt like **** and I had to ride unclipped to be able to get a full revolution on the pedals at all. I did one kilometre and decided that was enough of a milestone.
This week (six days later) and I’ve finished a half hour workout on Zwift. FTP bias was dialled down to 75% because I didn’t want to stress the knee too much by actually doing an FTP test, and the goal was the time rather than any particular power output etc. Pedalled focussing on the left leg (and yes, that’s going to give me DOMS tomorrow given how it’s feeling now after some ice!). The discomfort is tightness, not the sharp knee pain that I had pre-op.
Overall: working hard on getting quad functionality back. The left quad is a lot weaker, partly because of the op but also partly just from the months of knee pain. Ice therapy machine has gone back – I have a knee ice pack that I’m using instead after workouts/physio. I don’t need the full-on machine now.
Things of note: my knee generally feels better with tubigrip on it, providing some support, except when I’m cycling/doing physio exercise when that just gets in the way.
The weekend was a little rough – knee flicked backwards when coming down stairs on Saturday morning and I think I wrenched some things that didn’t react well to being wrenched, so I ended up with a quiet weekend to let it all settle down again.
Experimenting with silicon gel to sort out the scar, plus some massage.
I came off paracetamol after about 10 days post-op – took the full two week course of ibuprofen to manage inflammation – but found that as it wasn’t hurting in the morning, when any painkillers would have worn off some hours earlier, so decided not to take the paracetamol.
